Vero Beach, FL, July 1, 2024–Today, the FLDOE released Spring 2024 state assessment results in the areas of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. A review of the results in the various subject areas reveal that, for the second year in a row, the SDIRC realized unprecedented levels of success and growth. Results eclipsed the phenomenal results SDIRC experienced last year exceeding state results in all content areas but one (Civics matched state performance).

 

Below, highlights of SDIRC's 2023-2024 results are summarized:

  • SDIRC Students outperformed the State percentages of students performing at Level 3 or above in all content areas tested through the Spring State Assessments except Civics (matched state performance).   

  • English Language Arts - Grades 3-10 - Level 3 or Above: Increase 6% points from 22-23 to 23-24 (51% to 57%) exceeding the 4% point growth across the state (49% to 53%). Of particular note:
    • Rosewood Magnet, Sebastian Elementary, Gifford Middle, and Sebastian River Middle all exceeded prior year scores by at least 10% points.
    • Grade 3 performance (63%) exceeded the state average (55%) by 8% points.

     

  • Mathematics (Grades 3-8, Algebra, & Geometry) - Increase 5% points from 22-23 to 23-24 (55% to 60%) exceeding the 4% point growth across the state (51% to 55%). Of particular note:
    • SDIRC increased performance on the Geometry EOC 13% points from 22-23 to 23-24 (46% to 59%) exceeding the 6% point growth across the state (46% to 52%).

    • Fellsmere Elementary, Pelican Island Elementary, Rosewood Magnet, Sebastian River High, and Vero Beach High all exceeded prior year scores by at least 9% points.

     

  • Science (Grade 5, Grade 8, and Biology) - Level 3 or Above: Increase 5% points from 22-23 to 23-24 (60% to 65%) exceeding the 2% point growth across the state (53% to 55%). Of particular note:
    • SDIRC increased performance on the Biology EOC 7% points from 22-23 to 23-24 (70% to 77%) exceeding the 3% point growth across the state (61% to 64%).
    • Fellsmere Elementary, Indian River Academy, Sebastian Elementary, Treasure Coast Elementary, Sebastian River Middle, and Sebastian River High all exceeded prior year scores by at least 12% points.
  • Social Studies (Civics and US History) - Level 3 or Above: Increase 3% points from 22-23 to 23-24 (66% to 69%) matching the 3% point growth across the state (64% to 67%). 

    Of particular note:

    • SDIRC increased performance on the US History EOC 7% points from 22-23 to 23-24 (65% to 72%) exceeding the 5% point growth across the state (62% to 67%).
  • High Schools – Both SRHS and VBHS increased performance in all content areas assessed.
  • Combined Increases – Fellsmere Elementary, Sebastian Elementary, Sebastian River Middle, Sebastian River High, and Vero Beach High saw a combined increased of at least 35% points across all four content areas.

It is abundantly clear from a review of the data that the SDIRC continues to be an exemplar for the State on providing the instructional quality and supports needed to realize continuous improvement for the benefit of students. Our school teams, district teams, and students are to be commended and celebrated for their unwavering expectations and work that contributed to the current outcomes.
